My car needs its 135,000 mile service, where should I take it?

My car has about 132,900 something at the moment. The maintenance required light came on at 132,000 and I want to get it serviced since I hear a slight creaking noise whenever my wheels hit an incline/decline at an odd angle like when I leave my driveway. This has been happening since mid November. It’s possible it’s bushings needing to be replaced. The obvious place to go to would be to take it to a dealer right? However I’m pretty sure it can go to my mechanic but I’m not sure my mechanic can do them in a timely manner since he’s one of the more popular ones in the area. I’m sure I could also take it to a jiffy lube or Midas or whatever, but a dealer would be the best bet, even though they are more expensive and can be scummy, though the dealer I use is pretty good. So where could it go?

I would stick with your Mechanic. Just schedule it.

If you car is something simple like a Honda or Ford then you may consider doing some of the recommended service yourself.

If it’s a BMW, just burn it. Cheaper.

Avoid the Midas and jiffy. Your local guy or any reputable shop will be able to handle this. This maybe something you could do also as it is often cost effective to replace entire control arm with all bushings already installed. Alignment after.

Seconded! Cost for just the ball joints & bushings on my Mazda3 was more expensive than just buying the whole control arm with ball joint and bushings installed on both sides. Definitely cheaper to change the whole thing out for me, and you’d already have it apart to do the work anyway if you do it yourself.
